I'll play.

Just out of interest btw, have you guys given any thought to the format ? It strikes me that having two divisions of players doesn't work so well when there are twice as many places in the top division. It means you can qualify for it rather easily and stay there without too much effort/success. Would it not be better to have 3 groups of 21 rather than one 28 and one 14 ? That's always assuming we can raise that number of players of course...

I'm relatively new to this site and this game, so I don't know how this works. Is this tournament basically a lot of Classic games, winners or top 2 or 3 go on to the semi-finals, and the final 7 people battle it out in a final Classic game? Would these game(s) be played by email or automated on the http://redscape.com/games/ site?

It's a fairly recent innovation actually, replacing an earlier tournament format that came to an end last year. In essence the idea is to have a league with two divisions. Players compete individually and score points based on their finishes in standard Dip games that take place via email/forums. Last year we all went in the same group with the aim of qualifying for either the top or bottom division and this year we're due to have the beginning of the tournament proper, with promotion and relegation to play for and obviously an overall title at stake (I'm not sure how that will ,work but I assume the top 7 players from the top division will eventually go on to a final). You'd presumably join in the bottom division and have to work your way up.

Since you're more used to the fast-paced automated games it may be a bit of a change of pace for you. the forum games take much longer, with greater time between turns and more scope for negotiation etc. It's a bit more civilised and I tend to find that it lets you get to know the other players a lot better, but obviously it takes a lot longer to finish a game and so it requires a much bigger time commitment.

I missed the first two tournaments. I'd be willing to play and GM in this one if needed.
