Kind of odd that when someone's long shot most favorite dream candidate rises to the top of the Republican primaries they aren't around to take a victory lap. I've got about a half million videos and quotes queued up and no one to make suffer with them.

Sorry but you didn't claim Santorum early enough for it to count. DF called him long, long, long ago. He was a true Santista.

Great Danivon, defend your position. What are your favorite parts?

I'd say the big problem with Santorum is that he's trumping his personal way of life as public policy and I find that abhorrent. Now, I personally live a modest Christian homeschooling lifestyle, but that's a choice based on internal motivations, it has to be that way otherwise it has no value.

He has great hair. I believe that's important.

Seriously though, he is probably the kind of candidate that can really turn off moderates. Not as divisive as Gingrich would be, but still pretty good at motiviating opposition. They can point to him Godwinning a debate over the filibuster. They can point to him blaming liberal culture for the abuse of people by Catholic priests. They can cite his opposition to allowing married couples to obtain contraception.

I'd say the big problem with Santorum is that he's trumping his personal way of life as public policy and I find that abhorrent. Now, I personally live a modest Christian homeschooling lifestyle, but that's a choice based on internal motivations, it has to be that way otherwise it has no value.
There certainly is a difference between setting an example and trying to impose it. Not that a President really can do that, but if he's campaigning with the apparent intent to, then I agree it is something to abhor. He also wants to undo the position that JFK took as a Catholic - to keep his religion out of White House policy.

I must say though, that I'm very disappointed to see that Dave Mustaine is backing Santorum. Not enough to burn my Megadeth CDs, but enough to add a huge dollop of irony when I listen to Peace Sells...

Haven't you noticed? The tone (and quantity of posts) of these boards have really changed. He just can't seem to go half-way; he's either all in or out.

Tbh I've not checked in much for the last couple of weeks.

Steve is an interesting character. You'd think somebody who's so nakedly partisan would be a little more thick-skinned really. Politics is a contact sport after all. That said, it's always a shame when active regulars leave.

Politics SHOULD be a sport where the opponent actually gives fair-minded thought to the opposite opinion. In my opinion, that ceased on Redscape some time ago.

Really? It has been my experienced the most partisan are the most thinned skinned. That is because the most partisan take politics personally so any disagreement is a personal insult.

Those who succeed in politics are those who look at it like a business and treat it professionally.

The crazy part about Santorum (besides the hilarious pun headlines that I swear are intentional) is that when he talks about the economy, he actually sounds smart.

The man is smart. The problem is that he is a far right religious nut job. And that is coming from a Republican in the state that sent him to the Senate.

What was it that I remembered about another man running for the presidency? Wasn't it that his church and religious beliefs do not matter? Who cares that Rev. Wright was his pastor. As long as he keeps his beliefs to himself, that is what matters.

Yeppers. Times haven't changed too much.
