Some amusing anecdotes...I kind of like the guy a little more.

I saw his resignation speech: he's charming. You can see why he was a good politician. He definitely seems committed to the institution of the House. Crazy, first Cantor, then Boenher: It's a risky political strategy to cut off the leadership like that. Could work. Could spiral out of control.

There may be a pattern here that when someone on the right leaves power the media becomes more sympathetic and left-leaning people start to like them. Has anyone else noticed that?

I saw in another forum that Fate called Kevin McCarthy a "fool." Wondering if not McCarthy, then who is going to be speaker? That guy from Utah? Someone else entirely?

Well, at least the fool had the sense not to put the caucus through this.

Someone with conservative credentials and a diplomatic bent should get the job.

Paul Ryan? I guess he prefers Chairing the Budget Committee -- who can blame him?

It's all downside for Ryan.

I understand Issa might be interested. That would be interesting. He ran for statewide office in CA some years ago and there was a bit of "he's an Arab" subtext to the election.

You have a source for this?
The only time he considered running for State wide office was after the Gray Davis recall, which he funded with $2million. But he didn't run when polling showed him with little support.
And he is an Arab. One of five Arab Americans in Congress.

I think that a barrier to his future is his past.

He ran for the Republican nomination for Senate in 1998. Look it up. He lost to Matt Fong.

Actually, the problem is the tent is too big. Democrats pretty much march in lock-step. Republicans go from moderate to libertarian. Democrats go from Socialist Democrat to . . . extremely progressive.

A Fox News focus group of Florida Democrats found that Sanders was a big winner at debate. In fact, a show of hands indicated that 50 percent had supported Hillary supported prior to the debate but only a handful did after the debate.

Sanders is speaking truth to a lot of Democrats.

Really both parties have become more ideological. A higher % of Republicans call themselves either very conservative or conservative, and a higher % of Democrats call themselves very liberal or liberal. 40 years ago there were Democrats calling themselves conservative and Republicans calling themselves liberal. Each Party had more people self describing as moderate.
