So,
the great man tumbles. Who's next?
Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus has resigned, citing "extremely poor judgment" for having an extramarital affair, NBC News reported.
"Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position," Petraeus said in a letter to CIA colleagues. "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours."
"This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation," Petraeus said in the letter.
Mike Morrell, the deputy CIA director and a long time CIA officer, will likely be offered the job as acting director, multiple sources told NBC News.

Yes, it is a coincidence. I do suspect that suddenly the blame for a number of things might get shifted his way.
Hillary is on her way out. Kerry in?
Looks like the AG is stepping down! Who will replace him?
Geithner will move on. Who's in at Treasury?
Will Mitt become Secretary of Business???

Should he have stepped down? Is that really a reason to lose your job? Your marriage yes, but your job? Probably would make a hard job a lot harder, sure, but it's not like she worked for him.

I thought the doctor was kidding with his reference to Geithner stepping down until I looked it up. More good news for the administration. I hope he does and long before summer!

Obama's replacement choice will be interesting. The two most talked about choices represent the two paths Obama can take. Jack Lew is an insider and a partisan Democrat. This would challenge the ability of the parties to work together. On the other hand Bowles (of the Simpson-Bowles Plan) would signal a seriousness about deficit reduction and a willingness to heavily include Republican ideas into deficit reduction.
Re Geo's point on Petreus, my initial reaction was the same as his. I suspect that there are details that we don't yet know about.

For example, this:
Meanwhile, a video has surfaced that shows Petraeus' mistress and biographer Broadwell giving information about the attack that some say may indicate she was privy to sensitive information.
Speaking at the University of Denver in late October, Broadwell responds to a question about Petraeus role in the Benghazi scandal by saying, "I don't know if a lot of you heard this, but the CIA annex had actually, um, had taken a couple of Libyan militia members prisoner and they think that the attack on the consulate was an effort to get these prisoners back. So that's still being vetted." ...
The New York Times reports that in the course of its investigation into the emails, the FBI found classified documents on Broadwell's computer, according to a government source.
CBS News senior correspondent John Miller says the FBI seems to have been satisfied that Petraeus was not the source of the documents, but if the report is accurate, it raises further questions about the level of access she enjoyed as a private citizen to some of the nations most senior officers, and sensitive information.

Let's see . . . Kerry, who once made up war atrocities (and a new pronunciation of "Genghis") for Department of Defense. That will help troop morale!
Susan Rice for Secretary of State . . . well, she can certainly carry out a lie effectively. After all, she told us about the videotape being the motivation for the attack on the consulate in Benghazi on 5 different shows.
Eric Holder is (apparently) staying. Nice. I guess Janet Reno said 'no.'
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/nat ... story.htmlThis will be four years of scandal and ineptitude. So, here's another suggestion or two:
Secretary of Treasury: John Corzine
Ambassador to the UN: Debbie Wasserman-Schultz
Secretary of Energy: Ralph Nader

I'm afraid Ralph would say no. It would be great, though, to get a genuine American hero into government now. Nice suggestion.
