Julian Assange threatened legal action over WikiLeaks documentary

Assange, the WikiLeaks founder, threatened to sue the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in the United States if they broadcast the documentary, WikiLeaks: Secrets and Lies, earlier this year.

The legal threats came to light after media regulator Ofcom rejected a detailed complaint from Assange about the programme on Monday.

Assange had complained that the programme, which first aired on More4 in the UK on 29 November 2011, was libellous, unfair and had invaded his privacy.

Yeah, as if he was really interested in free speech, in the first place. I have yet to see any disclosed secret documents from this hypocrite originating in non-Western governments such as North Korea, Iran, Pakistan, Venezuela, or China. I could be wrong, but he seems just a tad anti-American, you think? Or maybe he just doesn't want to play around with governments that will actually send out people who will kill him and his stooge allies.

The link posted above by Neal Anderth, which mentions Wikileaks but otherwise isn't terribly relevant to Danivon's post, is to an online magazine by the name of "The New American". This wonderful little corner of the internet is, according to their own About page, a wholly owned subsidiary of the John Birch Society.

At the article to which N.A. linked, one can click on the author's name and see a listing of all the articles he's contributed. Although the magazine is self-described as bi-weekly, this guy posts one to two articles per day, and they are on almost every conceivable subject that one might consider red meat to the very far right.

To me, these facts add up to this source having a credibility quotient that's quite low. You may draw different conclusions, as is your right. I'd be curious to know if N.A. knew the above facts but disagrees with my assessment of very low credibility, didn't know the above facts (and perhaps now wishes to regret his linking), or what. It seems to me that N.A. posts some pretty weird stuff. Is he a fan of the John Birch Society? Inquiring minds want to know.

I see that Neal Anderth has posted in another thread, so I post here to bump and try to get his attention.

I'm guessing that Neal's link was something of a reinforcement for my comment about Assange's anti-American bias. That is, the WikiLeaks leak of emails to expose this scandal in order to create further embarrassment for US officials, etc. The actual story, itself, is secondary.

Or so, I am assuming.

Monday bump. If Neal Anderth didn't realize he was citing an article from the John Birch Society, he just has to say so. If he was doing so knowingly I think that's something the community should be aware of.
