Sorry about that, it's John Stewart's handling of the matter.

I'm sure it's brilliant, especially if John Oliver is involved (friend of a friend thing gives me some bias).

He'll say anything to get elected:
During a rally in Colorado, Romney said that using morning after pills was equal to abortion. He referred to the pills as "abortive pills," according to an ABC news report.

Considering the fact that Romney once supported abortion rights but now opposes abortion -- such extreme stand on the issue --points to his urge to win ultra conservative votes.

Romney criticized Obama for his birth control policy and said it was a "violation of conscience" for people who believed in pro-life faiths

If Plan B is seen as the same as abortion, does that mean Romney opposes the coil (IUD) for the same reasons?

He has no opinion on IUDs unless it will help him get elected.

It's more like he'll say anything to NOT get elected.

Well he was trying to compete with Santorum. Of course Santorum is probably more credible on the issue in that his views are consistent.

I didn't expect Romney to lose all three of those mid-west primaries though. Cats, pigeons every where

Well Romney didn't do his money blitzkrieg in those three states. This may be the most troubling part, that he and his super PACs are just outright buying the nomination. Years of yammering on finance reform and things are worse than ever. I think Stephen Colbert has illustrated this quite clearly with the formation of his own super PAC. As he says at the end of his analogy, "Isn't that just political money laundering?"

By the way, my comparison of Plan B to a IUD is incorrect. I thought that Plan B acted to ensure that an embryo could not implant the womb. In actual fact, it acts more like the birth control pill, in that it stops any ovulation. The thing is that it can take several days after sex for sperm to meet egg - conception usually takes longer than people think.

So, it's not an abortifactent. It's not even an embyro-implant blocker. It's just a powerful contraceptive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_ ... ptive_pill

Romney's opposition to it is moronic. At least (I assume) Santorum opposes both abortion and contraception on religious grounds.

Yes, I think Romney is miscalculating. It's just the sort of issue to make someone on the fence like myself to vote D.

Romney would be better off not pandering on this one and instead consider Santorum or someone similar as his VP.

So, do the PACs that attacked Gingrich now turn on Santorum? If they do, then the option of Santorum for VP will evaporate quickly.
And I bet that they do turn on Santorum, because they worked so well on Gingrich...
But again, if they do, Romney is salting the earth he needs to till for the fall.

Ricky, with the rhetoric against Obama, right wing republicans will vote for Romney even though they don't like him or trust him. Because he's the lesser of two evils. Of course, turnout may be down, but that's not so bad for him, because I expect Democrats to be far less enthusiastic as well.

Of course, if he comes off too badly he may turn off the moderates like Ray Jay. As I see it, our RJ is prime target voter material. Disenchanted with American liberalism. Hot on fiscal policy. Worried about the costs of social programmes. Disillusioned by Obama on a variety of issues, including the biggies - bailouts and healthcare.

So risking that moderate potential could cost him the election. I saw a reference to the 76 Republican and 84 Democrat races, the last ones that were properly close all the way to the first votes at Convention. It was a long and bitter fight through all 50 states. One candidate was ahead all the way through, but not enough to guarantee the nomination. They won through at the national convention stage...

And lost the General.

There was a cartoon in 1984 - Mondale in the corner of a boxing ring, bruised and battered. Reagan is entering the ring, looking fresh and ready for a bout. The trainer is telling Walter how well he's done to win, now come the fight.

"A conservative, a liberal and a moderate walk into a bar. The bartender says, 'Hello Mitt.'"
