Any perspective on the claims of this history article as to the degree of which slavery brought the South into the Revolutionary War?

I will say the main reason Washington was made General of the Colonial Army was to tie the southern colonies to the war. Washington was only a Colonel of the Virginia militia at the war start. Additionally, he didn't have a very good record as military commander (he built fort at the bottom of a hill), and was most famous for starting the French and Indian War (he signed a confession admitting assassinating a French Diplomat) so he wasn't necessarily the best military choice as commander. He was the political choice.
