The Baku Khan's Palace (really, the fortified outer walls) makes for an interesting spectacle on the track. The winding street features four different corners of the track, only one of which is counted as a corner for CFR:

Castle corner.png

The corner rounding the tower is #10:

Turn 9&10 pic.png
Corner 10 from vantage of corner 9

Turn 26 Summary

Harley rounds the tower and stays a turn ahead at 60.

Dygert, at 60, rolls outside in T7 for free. He ends inside, leaving the knives sheathed. Kubala regains 2nd place at 60 on the line.

Kay and Walling switch places at 80 each, with Kay on the line.

Caldwell and Harrington also flip spots at 80. Caldwell has the line.

Costa finishes out T5 via the 60's. Puddifoot pulls even after rounding the T5/6 complex at 60 on the line.

Bernhardt dumps a wear at 80 on the T5/6 line. Schipper pulls up at 60.

Hoyt is into T3 for 2 wear on the line at 120.

Real-life traffic moves opposite of F1 traffic...

Old town pic.png
Thank you Google maps!

Turn 27 Results

Harley clears T12 at 60 and ready to accelerate.

Kubala is around the tower at 60. Dygert approaches the tower at 60.

Walling rounds T7 at 80 for a wear and tucks back inside. Kay finds the line open at 60. Everyone playing friendly here.

Harrington goes outer rail for free at 60. Caldwell, also at 60, uses the line.

Costa plots 100 before late braking to 80 w/ 1s (modified 7). He grabs the line. Puddifoot slides inside at 80.

Bernhardt was hoping for space at 100. Nope... and then his luck worsens as he late brakes w/ 1s (modified 10). A loud crunch means brake damage.

Schipper clears the T5/6 complex at 60 for free. Hoyt continues at 120 and dives into T5 for 2 wear and a chance w/ 1s (modified 3). I'm not sure if this is advisable in real life but Hoyt don't care!

Here is a pic of Turn 13. On Doug's track, it's the little kink that Russ just passed through. You can get a glimpse of one of the three Flame Towers.

Turn 13 pic.png

Turn 28 Summary

Russ throttles his powerful engine up to 140.

Kubala and Dygert clear T12 at 60 apiece, ready to slam down on the gas pedal.

Walling & Kay take turns through T8 at 60.

Caldwell is into T8 at 60 with Harrington right on his bumper, also at 60.

Costa gets initiative at 80 and burns a wear on the T7 line to pull even with the #32. Puddifoot dumps a wear in the 40 spot at 60.

Bernhardt rounds T7 for free at 60 on the line.

Schipper pulls up to T7 at 80 and opts for the racing line. Hoyt continues his wild odyssey at 120 to find himself NOT in last place!

Turn 29 Summary

Harley burns off some of his 100 speed on the outside of T15.

Kubala fires up the big engine to 140. Dygert keeps up at 120 and the bonus.

Walling runs the T12 line at 60. Kay, at 80, drops a wear on the outer rail to clear.

Caldwell plots 100 and the only way to use it without late braking, which he specifically says to avoid, is to attempt the forced pass w/ 1s (permission given in the plot). He squeezes through (modified 6) and coughs up 2 wear for the corner.

Harrington pulls up on the line at 60. Costa goes inside at 60.

Puddifoot is through T8 at 60, as is Bernhardt, also at 60.

Hoyt lops off 2 wear at 80 on the inside. Schipper slows to 40(?) on the line.

Here's a great view from Turn 14. On Doug's track, it's the 2nd little kink before you hit the speed limited Turn 15. A very interesting contrast between the old city and the modern Flame towers.

Turn 14 pic.png

Turn 30 Results

Harley slows to 60, saving his near-bald tires for the final lap.

Kubala follows the leader's route into T15 at 100. Dygert pulls up to the corner at 80.

Walling and Caldwell trade paint through the T13 kink at 140. Kay leaves a few horses in the barn at 120 but keeps the pace with the bonus. He selects the bumper on orange.

Harrington is out of T12 at 60. Costa goes wide at 60 to clear.

Puddifoot finds an open line at 60 and is in the straight. Bernhardt also uses the T12 line to clear at 60.

Hoyt sets up the T12 line at 60. At 80, Schipper clips a tire in T8 and regains contact with the field.

Turn 31 Summary

Harley clears T16 at 100 on the line and is ready to fly next turn.

Kubala brakes down to 60, taking it easy on the tires. Dygert bumps a wear at 80 and pulls even with the yellow machine.

Walling, expecting a challenge, posts 120. He late brakes to 100 with the dice (natural 7) and rolls outside in T15 for free. Caldwell, with the wear advantage, takes no issue with the maneuver and clears T15 on the inside for 2 wear.

Kay pulls up to the corner at 80.

Harrington throttles up to 120. Puddifoot pushes his already large engine w/ 2s (modified 8) to pass the slower Ford at 160.

Bernhardt takes an RM plot of 140 (NPR #3, 2 wear penalty). Costa comes out of T12 at 120; no slip was requested.

Hoyt and Schipper both clear T12 on the line at 60.

As you drive through Turn 18 (the little kink right before 19), look to your left and you'll see a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of course, you'll probably be driving a bit too fast through this stretch to get a really good look at the Maiden Tower.

Turn 18 Maiden Tower.png

Turn 32 Summary

Harley fires up the engine to 160 and through T19.

Kubala clears T16 on the line at 120 for a wear. Dygert takes the same line at 100 for free.

Caldwell pulls up on the line at 100. Walling slows to 60. Kay burns a wear at 80 in T15 to pull even with the black Chevy.

Puddifoot tosses two wear at 100 and tucks in behind the #46. Harrington spends one wear at 80 and is hung in the corner.

The black flag comes out for Bernhardt. With his 4th NPR of the race, the marshals call him off the track. Costa pulls up to T15 on the inside at 100.

Hoyt's damaged engine gets him to 100. Schipper, at 140, waves as he passes the blue machine.

Schipper sets up the T16 line at 100 and goes in with the slip (pre-set prefs). In tire conservations mode, Hoyt slows to 60.

Caldwell tucks in on a bumper at 160. Walling, at 180 and the double slip, moves up three positions and back into a promotion slot.

Costa pushes his engine to 180 with 1s (modified 3). He takes the green line for free. Harrington also pushes his engine to 180, 2s (modified 4). He incurs the wear cost for being off line but has the priority.

A new race leader!

Turn 38 Summary

Harley asks his engine for a little extra power (natural 9). After a cough or two, it complies and sends him up the track at 160 and onto the next racing line. Kubala's power plant has no problem with 160 and, with the bonus, finds himself in the top spot.

Dygert rolls through the T2 line at 60 for free. Puddifoot stays attached to his bumper, also at 60.

Walling has the initiative at 100. He goes outer rail for a wear and is the first car on bald tires. Kay, at 80, runs the corner through the middle, tossing in a wear for the privilege.

Caldwell takes advantage of the wide corner and is able to clear it on the line at 80. He moves up two positions and finds himself back into the promotion group.

Costa pays a skill chip for the over-brake to 80 (modified 4) before burning a tire on the inside of T1. Harrington runs the T1 line for free at 80.

Schipper over-brakes to 100 w/ 1 skill (modified 6) and addresses T1 on the inside. Hoyt keeps his foot on the pedal at 180 and grabs the line.
