Not sure how many hockey fans are on this board, but that was a great game this morning.

Russia is not Canada, but the Americans, fielding a pretty young team, looked really good in stretches. They caught a huge break when what would have been the game-winning third Russian goal was disallowed when one side of the American net was about an inch off its mooring.

This kid TJ Oshie was pretty incredible in basically single-handedly winning the shootout.

US wins, 3-2.

US vs Canada in the semi-final, likely whoever wins that one will end up with the gold, no?

Not necessarily. Both Finland and Sweden are not to be taken lightly.

In hockey, the goalie can have an enormous impact on the game. Like a pitcher in baseball or a quarterback in football..probably even more. Henrik Lundqvist (Sweden) and Tuukka Rask (Finland) could be the two best goalies in the world right now. You can't count either of those teams out.

Apparently lady hockey is a sport and we had the gold ripped from our clasp by the plucky Canadians.

Yes; Tuukka is the Boston Bruin's goalie and a major part of the reason they got into the Stanley Cup finals.

Lady Hockey>?

Its Women's hockey. And if there is a serious rivalry, truly bitter, in sport - it is between the American and Canadian Women. They play so often, are so closely matched, and the game very physical. Its supposed to be without body checking but really that call is only made on open ice hits in Canada US games. (Refs call contact more closely when other teams play the US or Canada because the lesser teams aren't nearly as physically strong or capable. .. One game a few months ago erupted into a brawl ..
The US team has generally had Canada's number in world championships and tourneys lately but Canada has now won 4 straight golds at the Olympics.
The game was every bit as compelling as the US Canada Mens semi today.
But the finish was a story book finish.... It left many Canadian fans in tears of joy ....

This year at the Oympics any one of 5 teams had a shot at Gold. Sweden is the team most feared in Canada...though the loss of one of the Sedin twins is tough for them.
Finland probably deserved a better fate but lost too many players (including Rask) to injury.
If you like hockey, the larger ice surface of the International game really improves the game .....The 1 - 0 Canadian win over the US today was a flowing, dynamic beautiful game.... No need for fights or clutch and grab play ....
