The 12th of Wilson's 14 points called for Ottoman controlled territories that were not occupied by Turks to form their own nations with boundaries based on where the different peoples lived. This included the independent nation of Kurdistan to be carved out an the area in southeastern Turkey, and what would become northern Syria and Iraq. Not all the 14 points were adopted, but I often wonder about alternative histories if they were.
