After four years of futile battles where little was gained by one side or another, 100 years ago the wheels were fast coming off of the Central Powers cart. Bulgaria had already signed a separate peace and the Ottomans were negotiating. The last major battle involving the Ottomans started 100 years ago this week in what we now call Iraq. In that battle the Ottoman commander, knowing that peace was imminent decided to spare his men and instead of continuing what was still a winnable battle, and he simply surrendered his army after a week, sparing thousands of lives, if not more. Was he a hero, coward or traitor? The line is not always clear.
We have all players responding. Orders are below. We have two retreats from Russia and Turkey. I'm going to retreat both units as shown below. If you don't want these units retreated as shown, let me know by 9pm Eastern tomorrow. I need your adjustments by 9pm on Friday. I hope to have Spring '03 orders due on Tuesday Oct 30 at 9pm. That compresses your dip by a day. If that's a hardship for some of you let me know.
