After months of bleeding and frustration in Verdun, Paul von Hindenberg replaced Erich von Falkenhayn as the German Chief of General Staff. Yes, that is the same Paul von Hindenberg who eventually became German President and appointed Adolf Hitler Chancellor in 1933. Makes one wonder how history might have changed had Verdun gone better for the Germans. 100 years ago yesterday.
