While both Verdun and Somme were raging during summer of 1916, another huge battle raged in the east. The Battle of Kovel started 100 years ago this week and would end two weeks later. During the battle and related offensive the Russians lost 500,000 men, which effectively finished their active participation in the war, and changed the course of history. And you think your summer is going poorly!
