100 years ago, British troops earned victory in the Battle of Batzentin Ridge. Dismissed by the French as a "an attack organized for amateurs by amateurs," it was a rare battle where everything worked as planned: Overnight artillery was devastating, aerial superiority provided cover and intelligence, and mixed troops (cavalry, infantry, South African, Indian, English) worked effectively together. They took 160 acres of high ground at the cost of only 9,194 causalities. With victories like that . . .
