The front half of the field tightens up.

Next deadline: turn 35 due Monday, August 29 at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC

Turn 34 summary:
Jeff finishes the S1 line and takes the 80s through S2 at 80. William stays right next to Jeff doing 100 through the S2 100s. Brad switches to the other 120 space in S1 and picks up the S2 line right behind the two leaders. Simone leaves some rubber in the S1 120s at 140 grabbing the S2 line.

Cody uses the S1 racing line at 100 for free and keeps up with Simone for now. Joe exits Horquilla at 120 and catches the first 120 space in S1 to stay on Cody's tail. Will covers the Horquilla line at a safe 60. Chris drops his last wear in the 40 space at 60.

Grant scrubs off one wear in the second Del Lago line at 80. Kal and Ken make identical moves, each spending two wear to use the first Del Lago line then the 60s to grab the Horquilla line.

Side by side for the lead and a spin in the back.

Next deadline: turn 36 due Wednesday, August 31 at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC

Turn 35 summary:
Jeff does 140 down the straightaway and sets up in the middle lane entering Ovalo Chicane. William plots 160 and pulls up alongside Jeff on the outside. Brad finishes the S2 line at 100 and sticks inside. Simone covers that same line at 120 and pulls even with the brown race car.

Cody finishes the S1 line and takes the S2 80s at 80 for free. Joe changes lanes in S1 to the other 120 space then runs into the first 100 space of S2 trying to stay with Cody. Will does 80 for free through the S1 80s. Chris does likewise at 120 through the 120s.

Grant attempts the Horquilla 60 at 100 for one wear and one skill on the chance table. The dice gods deal him a modified 7 and he spins! Neither Kal nor Ken are affected by Grant's spin. Kal takes the Horquilla line at 60 for free. Ken sheds his final two wear points to take the 40 space at 80 and slides inside of Kal's race car to take over 9th.

A lot of excitement as we approach the end of the race!

Next deadline: turn 37 due Friday, September 2 at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC

Turn 36 summary:
Jeff covers the Ovalo Chicane on the outside at a safe 100. William stands on the brakes to get down to 100 but they fail! And to make matters worse he doesn't have the required wear point so he spins. (RM Note: he will move 20 next turn, the lower of his SS and ACC. This will make the next turn interesting for Brad and Cody since the 100 lane will not be available to them.) Simone gets the jump on Brad as he plots 100 and spends one wear in the chicane 80s. Brad approaches the chicane at 60 since his tires are gone.

Cody flies down the straightaway at 140 lining up outside of Brad. Joe finishes S2 at 100 and drops inside. Will plots 80 and uses the S2 line. Chris at 100 is safe through the S2 100s

Ken uses the inside advantage to take the S1 120s at speed. Kal makes a huge move plotting 120, using the S1 80s for two wear and grabbing the S2 racing line for another. That puts him right on Chris' wing. Grant recovers from his spin at 60.

This could be a heckuva finish. Second place right behind the leader and third place is lurking. Meanwhile six cars are either in, or close enough to clear, Ovalo Chicane this turn. The big problem there is the track narrows at the exit of the corner.

Next deadline: turn 38 due (soft) Monday, September 5, (hard) Wednesday, September 7, at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC

Turn 37 summary:
Jeff gets down to 40 and takes the Foro Sol safely. Simone heats up his tires in Foro and gets to the wing of Jeff's race car and he has a one wear advantage. William points his car in the right direction and moves 20. Brad avoids all the action in the chicane by slowing to 60 and going around the inside.

Cody had to throw the dice either way, and they weren't kind (12). He tries to brake to 80 and move into the center lane but spins. Joe slows to 100 and moves outside of the spinning Cody. Will drives down on the inside just short of the chicane. Chris accelerates off of S2 and stays in the center.

Kal continues through S2 on the racing line at 120 and finishes inside. Ken tries to follow Kal through S2 at 120 with a three skill chance roll (modified 7) but the dice gods say "spin." Grant covers the S1 racing line at 100 for free.

No fewer than 10 positions are being contested as we approach the finish of the race. Of the cars left on the track only Brad is reasonably secure in his finishing 3rd.

Next deadline: turn 39 due Friday, September 9 at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC

Turn 38 summary:
Jeff burns his last wear in Peraltada taking the outside at 100. Simone drops his final two wear points in the same corner. He wisely anticipated Jeff going outside so he chose the middle lane. Brad holds 60 around the outside of Foro Sol for free. William drops to 60 finishing the Ovalo Chicane and stays inside just short of Foro Sol.

Cody recovers from his spin at 60 and takes up a position to the outside of William. Joe slows to 60 and stays inside in the short chute. Will plots 60 but has to burn off speed in the 80 lane of the chicane and take the final spot available in the chute. Chris plotted 100 but has nowhere to go. He brakes to 80 (three skill, automatic pass) and finishes the 100 lane of the chicane.

Kal slows to 60 and hits the inside lane of the chicane taking 8th away from Chris. Ken recovers from his spin and finishes S2, moving inside. Grant moves over a lane and takes the 100 and 80 spaces in S2, finishing alongside Ken.

RM Note: I'm experimenting with some extra graphics on the data boxes. A green "up" triangle means a driver gained at least one position this turn. Conversely, a red "down" triangle means a driver lost at least one position this turn. If a driver is established on a racing line a red arrow will appear in the upper left of the box. (Since there are no more racing lines left, I lit up the arrow on Grant's box just to demonstrate it.)

As expected, both Jeff and Simone push their accelerators through the floor, but only one engine holds. What a finish!

Next deadline: turn 40 due Monday, September 12 at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC

Turn 39 summary:
Jeff stomps the gas but his engine can't take the stress (1s>modified 11) and he can only move 160 just barely reaching the finish line. Simone also gives it all it has and his engine holds as he nips Jeff at the line for the win! Brad takes the outside lane of Peraltada at 80 for free. William slows to 40 through Foro Sol and takes the inside lane out of the corner.

Cody takes the Foro 60s at 60 and stays on the outside of William. Joe plots 60 and takes the outside of Foro for free. With Joe in the corner Will is forced inside, making a naked brake roll (3) and taking the 6th spot in the process. Kal holds speed at 60 into the Foro 60 right behind Joe.

Chris slows to 40 and sets up behind Will on the inside. Ken approaches the Ovalo Chicane at 100 keeping to the inside. Grant takes an RM plot, doing 100 to the chicane and finishing outside.

Note: For those who don't want to wait for the speed chart, the margin of victory was 0.576 sec.

A crash helps a couple of drivers.

Next deadline: turn 41 due Wednesday, September 14 at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC

Turn 40 summary:
Brad accelerates to 140 and comes out of Peraltada poised to finish third all by himself. William starts at 100 then late brakes to 80 (0 skill - 6) to take the outside of the final corner for free. Cody takes an RM plot and holds 60 in the middle lane of the corner for free. Will comes out of Foro Sol at 80 and grabs the tail of William's race car.

Joe moves into the inside lane in Peraltada at 80 for one wear and a one skill chance roll. The dice say "Not today" as he rolls a modified 11 and crashes. (NOTE: Everyone behind him now picks up another spot and as long as they all finish they will all score.) Kal Finishes Foro at 60 and opts for the outside lane. Chris makes a naked chance roll (4) to take the Foro 40 at 60 and ducks inside of Kal taking a another spot. Ken throws two skill to chance (mod 1) as he rounds Ovalo Chicane on the inside at 80 then another two skill chance roll (mod 3) to enter the Foro 60s. Grant plots 80 and takes the chicane in the 80s for free, finishing inside.

Peraltada strings out most of the field.

Next deadline: turn 42 due Friday, September 16 at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC

Turn 41 summary:
Brad finishes safely in third. William passes a naked acceleration roll (7) and drops inside. Cody does the same (6) and falls in right behind William. Will plots 120 and exits Peraltada moving towards the inside.

Kal sheds his last wear in the last corner, doing 100 around the outside. Chris stays safe at 60 through the middle lane. Ken finishes Foro Sol (already passed chance roll) and enters the outside lane of Peraltada for free. Grant scuffs one more wear off his tires doing 60 through the Foro 40 and sets up on the outside.

Since no other passes are possible this will be the final move.

Next deadline: COTA (race 2) builds due Wednesday, September 21 at 6pm EDT/10pm UTC
(Note the Wednesday deadline. Gives everyone the weekend off. Further deadlines posted in the COTA forum.)

Turn 42 summary:
Everyone maxes out. Cody gets a slip from William and Grant makes a three skill chance roll (modified 5) but there isn't enough race left for either to have an effect.

For the speed chart, on the next turn I will assume Chris/160, Ken/180, Grant/160.

I encourage everyone to post any post-race comments in the forum or you may email them to me and I will post them.

Thank you for a good race and let's go have some fun in Austin, Texas!

Simone clearly the class of the field on lap 3, outpacing Kal by nearly 8mph and nipping Jeff at the line by less than 6/10ths of a second.
