Ah yes. Regarding the clergy there are certain rules pertaining to them which are optional in the Royal variant (I think it would be pretty cool to actually use them.)
Perhaps we can say, if both partners don't take the religion of the celebrant then that all children have to take that religion. (religion would kind of be like succession in a way then.)
So, for example. Prince Gustav of Sweden (Protestant) is marrying Princess Maria of Spain (Catholic) and the marriage is being performed by a Protestant clergyman. Therefore, all the children from this marriage will be raised in the Protestant faith unless otherwise specified in the marriage writ.
Hmm. I wonder if we can make something which changes succession based on religion. That would be pretty interesting.

What about the emperor? Protestant emperors would make scene after Westphalia, but Orthodox and Muslim are a bit more doubtful. Especially Muslim HRE would probably conflict with alot of things the HRE stands for. Not that it would be very common with that development, but still.

I think we could include some special powers for the Holy Roman Emperor. Any particularly powers you had in mind?
The variant states that the Holy Roman Emperor is the ruler of the kingdom controlling the most of the German principalities.

I was mainly thinking about who should be able to be Holy Roman Emperor, but new rules for the empire could be fun. To begin with you can have persons, and not nessesalry states, as Emperors. As you are emperor on lifetime it'll give much reason to try to assassinate people, that's fun (you can assassinate I hope, I haven't read much of the rules so I'm assuming stuff). I think any further power except the building rules probably only should be minor, for flavour, as the power of the emperor decrease significantly after Westphalia.

On an unrelated note... is there someone out there who wants to host a Royale game?
I've been waiting 2 years for another one to come out. Last time, I only failed from inheriting the throne of Denmark because the damn king lived to be like 100...
Anyway, anyone who hosts one of these will have my eternal appreciation

If you're willing to wait until summer I may be able to host a Royale/Machiavelli variant.
With Royale, its just that I'm not conversant with the rules. Well, one rule in particular: When a territory is inherited by a foreign power, how does the GM keep track of all the units built in that territory so that all these units can then be transferred to the new dynasty?

My assumption was that the GM labelled each unit; i.e. Polish Army1 in Tyrolia moves to Bohemia, so now Polish Army1 is in Bohemia.
Then its just a matter of keeping a spreadsheet with all the buildsites, and which armies came from where.
I'd try hosting this variant, but around July I'm going to be unable to devote that kind of time to it, due to work issues.
