I was driving along a narrow road today, along the Atlantic coast. Just past the SwissAir Crash memorial I saw agroup of students standing on the shoulder. That's odd I thought, why would teenagers be standing in the middle of nowhere, when it's -9 C and a wind chill of -20? They waved me down and when I stopped I saw that their school bus was down over the bank, lying on it's side on a huge rock, only a few feet from the ocean. I jumped out and yelled, " How many are still inside!" None they said everyone is out. there were ten students plus the driver and they were already shivering from the cold. I called 911 and assessed their injuries. Miraculously, there was only cuts, scrapes, a broken collarbone and a sore back. The bus driver said she suddenly lost her power steering and was unable to make the turn. The bus hit a power pole and rolled three time before it came to rest. I got some of them into the back of my truck and the injured into the front while we waited for the ambulance and their parents. Two of the girls were suffering from mild shock. Once they were taken away and I gave a statement to the RCMP, I sat in the truck and had a bit of a shake myself! Went home and hugged the kids. Thank God no one was killed!

Yikes!
Pulling at a bus steering wheel without power while headed right for a pole is probably emblazoned in that driver's memory forever...
The bus looks pretty totalled. Must've been some impact.

Yes, that story deserves Velcro hugs for the kids... the kind where you don't let go.
Good job on the hero business.

I don't think anyone involved in that crash will ever forget it from what you say.
